One of the liveliest markets in Hong Kong, this market offers a variety of goods such as clothes, pirated CDs, footwear, cook wear, labels, watches, antiques (albeit fake) and other everyday items. Professionals such as herbalist and fortune tellers can be found in the market; as well as musical performers such as opera singers and buskers. If you want to avoid crowds, try going during the day as its busiest times are between 7pm and 10pm.

Ladies Market

The ladies market is one of the most famous markets in Hong Kong. You can buy wonderfully crafted items and interesting commodities such as pets; pets include animals such as: fish, spiders, snakes and other jungle creatures. Prices generally oscillate between $1 and $2 dollars, so you can feel comfortable going wild with spending. However, even if you have lots to spend, haggling will always get you the best deal. Not everything at the Ladies market is kosher as many fashion items are fake or counterfeit. If border officials find the counterfeit materials, they will be confiscated.

Formerly known as Upper Lascar Row, the Cat Street market is a cozy market, spanning 650 feet long, consisting of over 30 stalls. It’s known for selling antiques at low prices such as jade, silk, vintage post cards, Bruce Lee movies and snuff bottles. Cat Street is a great place to stop on your way out as it has many inexpensive souvenirs.

Hours of Operation: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

 

This shop is perfect for beginners as it’s not too big nor too crowded. It’s mainly targeted towards tourists, and you don’t need to know how to haggle to get a great deal. This is a great place to get souvenirs for all your friends and family back home. Like New York, you’ll find many I Love Hong Kong and others of that variety. In addition to these gimmicks, they also sell jewelry and other knick-knacks.

Goldfish Market

Hours of Operation: 10:00AM – 10:00PM

 

The Goldfish Market is well known for selling a wide assortment of pets; especially fish. It has nearly every breed and color of fish you can think of, in addition to snakes, lizards, turtles and birds. This market gets especially busy during traditional Chinese holidays such as Chinese New Year and the Moon Festival.

If you’re a techie or computer enthusiast, this market is the place for you. If you want to stock up on mice, keyboards, monitors, printers, hard drives, RAM, or any gadgets like headphones or microphones, the Golden Shopping Arcade has it. Although there is more than enough competition, the Golden Shopping Arcade is hailed as the best computer market on the strip.
