Gold Coast Australia

Gold Coast Australia

The Gold Coast is one of the coastal cities of Queens. It is approximately forty-one miles southeast of Brisbane, the capital.  No one really lived in Gold Coast until 1823 when John Oxley found himself ashore on Mermaid Beach.  The supply of red cedar drew more people to the area in later years, and once the Surfer’s Paradise Hotel was built in the 1920s, even more people arrived.

The Gold Coast area has multiple forests that include an ancient rainforest, mangrove islands, coastal heathlands, and eucalypt forests.  The weather is warm during the winter and downright hot with heavy rains during the summer.  The beautiful weather allows everyone to enjoy the waterways and beaches that fill the city.  There are many homes that are located on waterfront property and those homeowners have access to pontoons or other boats, which allow them to go out on the water every day of the year.

Gold Coast

There are forty-three miles of coastline in Gold Coast and that means a lot of beaches.  Many of the waterways also include beaches, so the locals and visitors have many to choose from.  Surfing may be popular everywhere, but the best surf breaks can be found along the coastlines of Gold Coast.  Surfers will want to check out the waves at Mermaid Beach, Surfers Paradise, South Stradbroke Island, Coolangatta, and the Spit, to name a few.

Of course, the beaches are not the only attractions in Gold Coast.  Point Danger Light is the perfect destination for panoramic views of the coasts of Queensland and New South Wales.  Many people take a picnic lunch to the lighthouse and after enjoying their food, they walk along one of the numerous coastal trails.

Natural Bridge, Springbrook National Park

Another fabulous outdoor destination is Springbrook National Park, which covers twenty-seven square kilometers filled with gorges, a rainforest, and a eucalypt forest.  People will find some of Australia’s oldest trees inside the park as well as rare bird species.  Hikers will want to venture over to Tamborine National Park for the walking trails that include Cameron Falls, Cedar Creek Falls, Curtis Falls, and Witches Falls.

The Wildlife Currumbin Sanctuary was established in 1947 by Alex Griffiths when he was trying to keep the wild lorikeets from eating his beautiful flowers.  In addition to the lorikeets, the sanctuary now includes kangaroos, dingoes, wombats, crocodiles, koalas, and Tasmanian devils.  Guests can interact with the animals, feed them, and even cuddle with a koala.

Shopping is a necessity for almost everyone and the Village Markets is much more than a shopping plaza.  Instead, it is an area that is filled with designers and artists who run small businesses.  People can purchase more than clothing, jewelry, art, and other items though.  Foodies will enjoy the food that is available for purchase, and music lovers will love the music that is being performed as well as the other entertainment.  The Village Markets is open on the first and third Sundays of the month on the grounds of the Burleigh Heads State School.

The Miami Marketta is open all week long and serves food alongside some of the best entertainment available.  People can choose to purchase food from any of the vendors and can even eat a little from each one if they have a difficult time choosing just one.  There are also shows inside Studio 56 and Laneway and everyone over the age of eighteen can attend.  Tickets can be purchased in advance for these standing room only events.
